Judge Ascher will discuss the history of the drug court program and its benefits to its participants specifically and to the community at large. She will discuss her experience with the court and its practices. 

Judge Madonia will discuss the history of mental health courts and the initial concepts behind restorative justice and the specialty courts specifically.  He will also address incentives and sanctions that are a necessary part of the specialty courts' process and address the reasoning and methodology behind the praise and punishment used to motivate our participants within the specialty court arena.  Finally, he expects to address the “Phase” process implemented in his mental health court and walk the audience through an example of what successful completion of the program looks like from criminal charges to graduation, with an emphasis on the benefits obtained from a participant who graduates the program through substantial compliance.
